JohnsonMr. Michael Stuart Johnson, Age 62 of Newaygo, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at home. He was born Michael Stuart Johnson in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of Marian (Crane) and Leland Johnson on December 20, 1949. He was a veteran having served as a Specialist 4 in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked in Quality Control for Knapp and Vogt for over 30 years. He is survived by his daughter Jessica Richardson of Newaygo, his grandchildren Austin Richardson, Hannah Richardson, Kailey Richardson, his mother Marian Crane, his brother Leland “Butch” & Judith Johnson of Grand Rapids, sister Sharon & John Ambrose of Comstock Park, sister Mary "Susie" & Steve Gibbie of Zeeland, his brother David & Kathy Johnson of Kentwood, sister Melissa Johnson of Muskegon, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Carol Griffin and his father Leland Johnson. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Mr. Alan Jay Wolters, Age 55 of Grant, Michigan died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at home. He was born Alan Jay Wolters in Grant, Michigan the son of Johanna (Hilbrand) and Alfred Wolters on August 24, 1957. He married Robin Lynne Hapner on October 4, 1986 in Grant, Michigan. He was a Manager for Michigan Apple Packer in Sparta, Michigan. He is survived by his wife Robin Wolters of Grant, his father Alfred Wolters of Grant, his brother Gary Wolters of Ravenna, his sister Marcia & Bob Clapp of Grant and nieces and nephews, Chris Perkins, Matthew Perkins, Jackie Perkins, Joshua Clapp and Michael Clapp. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the Grant Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, August 30, 2012 with Pastor Adam Noordyke officiating. Old_American_Flag_1_Mr. James Lemson, Jr., age 80 of Grant, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012. He was born James Lemson, Jr. in Byron Center, Michigan the son of Alice (Cammenga) and James Cornelius Lemson on August 2, 1932. Jim served in the US Army from October 5, 1951 to October 11, 1954 serving in the Korean War and was discharged as a SGT (T). He married Patricia Elaine Banfill on August 27, 1955 in Grand Rapids. He was a Salesman for Lemson Wrecker Sales until 2002 retiring after 41 years. He was a life member VFW Post #4249 Newaygo; life member American Legion Croton; and a member of Am Vets Post #23 Kentwood.

He is survived by his wife Pat, his son James & Jamie Lemson of Grant, his grandchildren James IV & Samantha Lemson, Justine Lemson, Morgan Manlick, Tyler Manlick, his great granddaughter Kathlyn Lemson, his sisters Marge & Larry Dornbos, Elaine & Arthur Smith, Shirley & Paul Vegt, Joan Harrigan, Mary & Larry Harrigan, many nieces & nephews and many special friends.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM from the VFW Post #4249 ‑ Newaygo, on Sunday, August 26, 2012 with Pastor George Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Mrs. Linda I. Cook, aged 52 of Howard City died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at her home. She was born Linda Irene Welch October 20, 1959 in Cadillac, the daughter of Maxine Louise and Alfred Franklin Welch. She married Douglas Lee Cook June 19, 1981 in White Cloud. She is survived by her husband Doug, her children Larry Cook, Doug Jr. & Megan Cook, Rebecca Beemer, Ashley Cook and Jamie, 6 grandchildren, her brothers and sisters Elaine Welch, Vera Giffen, Kay Felde, Butch & Cathy Welch, Kathy Welch, Beth Welch, Mark Welch, Robert & Laira Welch. Voshel – Mr. Jonathan M. Voshel, age 31 of Newaygo died of accidental injuries Friday night . He was born Jonathan Murphy Voshel February 8, 1981 in Grand Rapids, the son of Kathleen Anne (Murphy) and John Robert Voshel. Jonathan was owner/operator of the 50/50 Express Expediting LLC with his father and was a member of the Rolling Thunder and Patriot Guard.

He is survived by his children Jonathan Blake and Aidan Daniel both of Fremont, his parents Kathy & Wayne Moore of Newaygo, John & Kathleen Voshel of Wayland, his brother Nathan & Theresa Voshel of Newaygo, his sister Miranda Moore and Justin of Kent City, his step-brother Arron Moore & Shawna of Grand Rapids, his grandmothers Marie Hazen of Wayland and Carol Smith of Ravenna, numerous nieces, nephews and too many friends to count.

Memorial services will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Newaygo United Church of Christ Congregational with Pastor Jonathan Riedel officiating. Joseph Theodore Yarrington, age 83, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012, in Fremont, Michigan. He was much loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Joe was born in Stanwood, Michigan on July 19, 1929, to the late Edith (Rorick) and Lawrence Yarrington. After high school, Joe was in the Merchant Marines, traveling the Great Lakes, and then served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War, returning home in December, 1952. Joe married Arlene Eleanor Ludlow on April 3, 1953, and they were married for 49 years until Arlene passed away on May 20, 2002. Joe was a skilled tool and die maker, and worked at Dexter Lock, Imperial Tool and Die, and Gill Tool and Die. Joe enjoyed his retirement at Sylvan Lake, and was always an active, vigorous man, who enjoyed fishing, walking around the lake with his dogs, gardening and playing cribbage.

Joe is survived by his children, James Yarrington, Josephine Yarrington, Robert Yarrington, Anne & Charles Baar, and Susan & Chris Cuddohy, his grandchildren, Jameson Yarrington, Amanda and Isaac McDonald, Daniel and Ginny Ralph, Bryan Ralph, Lindsay Yarrington, Ryan Yarrington, Brittany Yarrington, Sherry and Scott Shephard, Sandy Garcia & Lucas Hewitt, Bradley and Amanda Baar, Adam and Lisa Baar, Austin Baar, and Reganne Cuddohy, and his great grandchildren, Scarlet Yarrington, Samantha, Lauren and Scott Shephard, Owen Baar, and great great grandchild, Madison Shephard, his sisters, Ardella Shippell, Lucille & Rich Hole, Leona Smith, and Ruth & David Goodman, sister-in-law Doris Yarrington, brother-in-law Gerald Ware, and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his brothers William, Albert and Donald Yarrington, his sister, Mary Ware, and brother-in-laws Danny Shippell and Randy Smith, and sister-in-law Edith Yarrington.

Joe’s family would like to thank all of the family, friends, and medical staff who have provided such loving care and support throughout his illness.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the McKinley Funeral Home – Newaygo Chapel with Pastor Dan Fullmer officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Military graveside services under the auspices of the Newaygo VFW Post #4249 at the Big Prairie-Everett Cemetery near White Cloud. Mr. William "Bill" Cotie, age 88 of Fremont, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Spectrum Health – Gerber Memorial Campus in Fremont. He was born William Walter Cotie in Auburn, California the son of Elizabeth (Walter) and William Fredrick Cotie on November 30, 1923. He married Genevieve Leone Davis Shimel on April 10, 1968 in East St. Louis, IL and she preceded him in death on October 29, 2009. He was a Newaygo County Jail Administrator until 1989 retiring after 10 years. He was a member of Fremont Faith Baptist Church. He was a veteran having served in the U.S.Navy during World War II from June 22, 1940 to August 14, 1951 when he was discharged as a AL1.

He is survived by his children Christopher Cotie of Portland, OR, Nancy Jean & Ben Stevens of Kentucky, Elaine & Arthur Tibbetts of White City, OR, 5 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and special friend JoAnn Wynegardner of Fremont.

Funeral graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM at the Ashland Center Cemetery, near Grant on Thursday, August 16, 2012 with Pastor Mark Ruley officiating. There will be no visitation. Please leave condolences at www.mckinleyfuneral.com.

Mr. Harold "Mike" Smith, age 65 of Bailey, died at his home in Moorland Township. He was born Harold Michael Smith in Grand Rapids, the son of Nora Delene (Monschein) and Harold Joseph Smith on March 8, 1947. He was a Mechanic for Alta Equipment Company, Muskegon until 2010.

He is survived by his children Cynthia Smith & Michael Burdo of Walker, Tammy Lynn Heibel of Hudsonville, Mike & Christina Smith of Fremont, 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, his sister and brother Sue & Dudley Irwin of Newaygo, Kevin & Sandra Smith of Grant, his sister in law Marge Smith of New Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold & Nora Smith and brother Dennis Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM from the VFW Post #4249, Newaygo on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 with the VFW Chaplain officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service.

Mr. Douglas L. Babbitt, age 69 of Newaygo, and formerly of Muskegon, died Monday, August 6, 2012 in his home. He was born Douglas Lee Babbitt in Fremont, the son of Josephine Mary (DeJohn) and Willard Mason Babbitt on September 19, 1942. He was a Laborer for Brunswick Corp. of Muskegon until 2002. He served during the Vietnam War in the US Navy from October 18, 1960 until February 17, 1965 being discharged as a RM2. He was a Life member VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo.

He is survived by his son Jeffrey Taylor, 3 grandchildren, his brother and sisters Dywane & Judy Babbitt of Newaygo, Dorothy & Harlan Meeuwenberg of Twin Lake, Marian & Keith Wismar of Newaygo, Joanne & Leonard Nelson of Newaygo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Funeral Home in Newaygo on Friday, August 10, 2012 with Pastor Doug Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Newaygo Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors under the auspices of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
