Mrs. Betty Lou (Wildey) Gross, 83, passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2012 at her favorite hospital Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. Born on July 31, 1928 at the family farm near Newaygo, Betty was the only child of George and Verna (Crispin) Wildey.
Betty grew up in Newaygo and received her education at Newaygo Public Schools graduating in 1946. She married William (Bill) Franklin Gross on October 4, 1947. Bill preceded her in death on June1, 2008. She is survived by her only son Steven and His wife Susan of Newaygo and Bill’s brother Douglas and his wife Lola of Three Rivers.
Betty spent her career as a secretary for Newaygo Public Schools. She began as the elementary school secretary and retired from Newaygo Public School as the principal’s secretary in 1986 after 30 years of service in the district. Many Newaygo graduates will remember her as the office lady.
Recently, Betty resided at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont where she was well-looked after by their caring staff and volunteers. She enjoyed playing bingo, attending musical shows, making crafts, watching the Game Show Network, visiting with friends, and participating in various activities provided by the Facility. Her favorite team was the Detroit Tigers. She was also a fan of basketball and loved watching games on TV.
Funeral Services will be held 1 PM, Monday, July 23, 2012 at the McKinley Funeral Home – Newaygo Chapel with visitation 3-5 PM Sunday, July 22, 2012. Interment will be in the Newaygo Cemetery and for Memorials please consider the Salvation Army.
Betty will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

I’m very sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. While at COA, I coordinated transportation for her to dialysis both from home and from MCF and she was always so pleasant to talk to and appreciative of the help we were able to provide. May thoughts and prayers are with you all, may your memories keep her close to you always.
