Mr. Donald E. O’Brien, age 85 of Fremont, died Friday, January 13, 2012 in Mission, Texas. He was born Donald Edward O’Brien in Rankin, Michigan the son of Helen (Gault) and Michael Paul O’Brien on May 22, 1926. He married Catherine Maria Pifher on November 19, 1949 in Flint, Michigan. He was a Manager/foreman for Amoco Petroleum retiring after 30 years. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo. He was a veteran of WWII serving under General Patton in the Armored Division.
He is survived by his wife Catherine O’Brien of Fremont, his sons David O’Brien of Manistee, Douglas & Valerie O’Brien of Grand Rapids, Daniel & Nancy O’Brien of Fremont, 8 grandchildren and 7 great‑grandchildren.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 with Father Pete Schafer as Celebrant. Interment will be in Sherman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7‑9 PM Tuesday at the Church with the Rosary at 8:30 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to time of service. My Uncle was a wonderful man, full of irishness. Very much loved by his little sister Peggi and his nieces Lee Ann & Jan. Quiet & strong and gave the best hugs. He & Kit hold very special places in our hearts.Jan & Lee Ann
