Our cottage will not be the same without visiting with Nic when we get there…He came out on the lake with us and had dinner several times. We will miss him and are very touched by how special he was to so many people. I will be lost not having a place to park in the winter for ice fishing and having Nic tell me “good luck”….and that something was wrong with me for wanting to go out on the ice to fish and freeze!! We love you Nic, Rest in Peace my friend…Dana (Lutzke) Beekman..Your Brooks Lake neighbor!!

To Nic’s family and friends: Nic will be missed in this town. He was the chosen teacher when our son, Teddy (Professor at Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, NC), was a senior at Newaygo High School in 1996 and Teddy was a part of Excellence in Education that year. Nic came to dinner and the program with us and touted his camera, as he often did for any activities at school. I would see Nic at the store or anywhere around town and he always had a smile and a hug. He was a great influence on many students in the Newaygo School District. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any teacher put in as much time for his students as Nic did and he will truly be missed. Our prayers and sympathy are with Nic’s family and many friends and we are so sorry we had to lose him so soon. Rest in Peace, Nic.

The community lost a wonderful man. His influence on the youth in the schools and the community will be sadly missed. Liz I do not know if you remember me or not…was Service Unit Director for Newaygo Girl Scouts for many years…my sincere condolences to you and your family. Your brother in law was special in his understanding of the needs of his students and others whom he came in contact with.

“Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart.”—Psalm 34:18.
This verse is definitely helping my family right now. Mr. Nordin was a friend of mine, although I didn’t know as well as some of his students. But in the last couple of years, I’d routinely see him as I go about my business in Newaygo. Always a smile, always recognition in his eyes, knowing that I was a Newaygo student, though never his student. Newaygo won’t be the same without him, that’s for sure.

Karen Trowbridge To your family!!! By the sounds of these tributes to Nic, he took after his father. Mr. Nordin, as he was known to his students at BCHS, was one of the nicest ,kindest and caring teachers in our school. I want Pat, Greg, mom, and the rest of Nics’ family to know you have John and my deepest sympathy. I’ve known and thought the world of your family over the years and I want you to know your in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

To the family of Mr. N, your son, your brother, your uncle was part of most of the families in this community through his years of service as their teacher. He made the students he taught his family and followed them through the years. He was dedicated to his kids and worked tirelessly to help them find their place and understand a changing world. He was so creative in his teaching and made every thing fun. He was well loved and loved his kids. He used to attend the after school activities of his kids, they were always sure if they asked he would come, and he did not let them down. Mr. N. and his camera captured the times of their lives. I just wish there had been more time to tell him thank you for all he did and how we appreciate you for all the hard work, and what on earth could we ever done to deserve such a wonderful you in our daughter’s life.
Thank you, Mr. N.

Today we said goodbye to an awesome teacher, friend, son, brother, and uncle. Wow! People were lined up outside Newaygo high school this afternoon to say their final goodbye to Nick Nordin. I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Nordin from the time he started teaching at Vera Wilsie. He inspired his students to believe they could achieve anything they set their minds too. He loved teaching and anyone that had the opportunity to work with him knew he was the most dedicated teacher and truly cared about all kids. Mr.Nordin made a difference in every student he ever taught. My grandson was a student of Mr. Nordin’s two years ago. He loved Mr. Nordin. He talked about all the cool things his class did. He couldn’t wait to get home and talk about his day. He loved lunch time at school because he got to eat lunch with Mr. Nordin. Mr. Nordin always found different ways of having special times with his students. He just didn’t teach his students, but he made differences in each one of his students lives. He was dedicated to teaching. He will be missed by all. I am so glad that I had the pleasure of knowing him. I would like to thank his family for sharing such an awesome guy with all of us here in Newaygo. Mr. Nordin you will live on through your past students. Some of them will be teachers and they will tell their students a story about the teacher who made a difference in their lives. Some of them are already teachers and have already shared their awesome story about Mr. Nordin the teacher who truly loved to teach. Thanks for making a difference.
