Mrs. Patricia Yvonne Hills, Age 73 of Howard City, Michigan died Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Fremont. She was born Patricia Yvonne LaRoche in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Lucile Marie (Dudley) and Charles Henry LaRoche on March 8, 1938. She married Gene A. Hills on January 15, 1968 in Grand Rapids. She was a retail clerk until her retirement. She is survived by her husband Gene Hills of Howard City, her children Dawn Lewis of Newaygo, Marlene & Kevin Oswald of Holland, Karen & Bill Preble of Fremont, Patrick & Mellissa Hills of White Cloud, and 9 Grandchildren. Memorial services will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Red Anchor Inn in Croton on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Ann Jones, age 79, of Croton passed Tuesday, January 24, 2012 with her family around her. She was born June 26, 1932 to Karl and Gladys Giese in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from Grandville High School in 1950 and married Wayne Keith Jones on October 26, 1952.
Many folks will remember Jackie as a familiar face at Croton skating each week, handing out skates, running the concession stand, and teaching many youngsters how to skate. She also served as the first Librarian of the Croton Community Library, ran and owned the Croton Galley restaurant for many years, and later became a successful realtor with Lyda Realty.
She enjoyed playing Yahtzee, Crazy Bee Rummy, and baking (especially anything with her favorite ingredient “Peanut Butter”) with her grandchildren; going on fishing trips up north with her husband and their friends; jigsaw puzzles; Thursday night bingo; and taking care of her family. She had an incredible sense of humor and made everyone she met feel at ease. She was a beloved member of the community and will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
She is survived by her husband Wayne; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Janice Jones of Croton; her daughter Terri Kaiserlian of Croton; her grandchildren Wade Keith Jones (Leigh), Brian Keith Jones (Alexandria), Jennifer Ann-Marie Jones (Nick), Shelby Rose Kaiserlian and Sarah Ann Kaiserlian; her sisters, Esther Meyers of Grandville and Betty Korenstra of Fremont; her brothers, Bernard Giese of Walker and Leslie Giese of Sparta; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Gladys (West) Giese and Karl Giese; her sisters Marjie Decker, Dorothy Jackson & Marilyn Prelowitz; and her granddaughter Rhonda.

Howard Kenneth French 96, went home to meet his Savior, Sunday, January 22, 2012. He was a member of Ensley Baptist Church for many years, and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, traveling, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Mary French (Fisk)in 2007; daughter, Nancy Norquist and daughter-in-law, Yvonne French. He is survived by his children, Larry and Olga French, Darrel French, Mariann and Wayne Bedell; Son-in-law, Gerry and Pat Norquist; 13 Grand children, 33 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchld. Kenneth is also survived by a sister, Margaret Eldred; brother, Merlyn and Pat French; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Lyle Fisk, Ross and Kathy Fisk, Dora and Fred Polega, Rose Bergman, Ann Boerma, Doug and Diane Fisk and numerous nieces and nephews. Kenneth’s family will greet relatives and friends Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Ensley Baptist Church, Ensley Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Ensley Baptist Church with Rev. James Ankerberg officiating. Interment will be at Solon Township Cemetery. Cathy Jo Cooper Asmus, age 50, of Kent City passed Thursday, January 19, 2012with her family around her, losing her battle with breast cancer . She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 25, 1961 the daughter of John & Betty Cooper. She graduated Kent City High School, served in the US Navy, was a member of the Kent City American Legion and the Sparta MOOSE. She was an Information Technology Specialist for the Hope Network in Grand Rapids. She married Dennis R. Asmus on September 17, 2011 in Kent City.
She is survived by her husband Dennis of Kent City, her parents John & Betty Cooper of Kent City, her parents in law Ardith & Rodney Whitney of Bailey, her children Loni Jo Huck of Kent City, Larry Huck II of Muskegon, Samantha & John Bradley of Bridgeton, Kristi and Joe Cook of Bridgeton, her grandchildren Taylor Jo, Tami Lee, Trinity Alexis, Addison Elise, Austin, Elliott, Elijah, Brooklyn, Shelby, Johnathan, Emma and Paige, her sisters Nancy & Al Starr of Sand Lake, Deby & Pat Rouhan of Howard City, Ginny & Bill Hammer of Cedar Springs, Karen & Tim McCarty of Kent City, Vivian & Gary Felde of Kent City, Tracy Cooper of Kent City, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Donald E. O’Brien, age 85 of Fremont, died Friday, January 13, 2012 in Mission, Texas. He was born Donald Edward O’Brien in Rankin, Michigan the son of Helen (Gault) and Michael Paul O’Brien on May 22, 1926. He married Catherine Maria Pifher on November 19, 1949 in Flint, Michigan. He was a Manager/foreman for Amoco Petroleum retiring after 30 years. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo. He was a veteran of WWII serving under General Patton in the Armored Division.
He is survived by his wife Catherine O’Brien of Fremont, his sons David O’Brien of Manistee, Douglas & Valerie O’Brien of Grand Rapids, Daniel & Nancy O’Brien of Fremont, 8 grandchildren and 7 great‑grandchildren.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 with Father Pete Schafer as Celebrant. Interment will be in Sherman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7‑9 PM Tuesday at the Church with the Rosary at 8:30 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to time of service. Mrs. Grace E. Bonter, age 54 of Grant, died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at her home in Casnovia Township. She was born Grace Edith Jenerou in Muskegon, Michigan the daughter of Joyce (Woodruff) and Roscoe Jenerou on February 15, 1957. She married Clifton David Bonter on August 9, 1975 in Bailey. She was a Clerk for Gillette Trading Post.
She is survived by her husband Clifton Bonter, Sr. her children Clifton Bonter, Jr. of Grant, Daniel Bonter of Grant, Nicole & Jonathan Kilcrease of Muskegon, Cassandra Bonter of Grant, 7 grandchildren. her mother Joyce Jenerou of Bailey, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by her son Jarrod David Bonter.

Nicanor L. Nordin Jr., age 61, of Newaygo, Michigan passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 12, 2012. He was born in Brown City, Michigan on December 2, 1950 to Nicanor and Marjorie Nordin.
He graduated from Brown City High School in 1969 and from Northern Michigan University with a Masters Degree in Education.
He taught school in Newaygo for 28 years, where he will be sadly missed by his students, young and old.
Nic is survived by his mother, Marjorie of Brown City and Port Richey Florida; his sister, Patricia (Norm) Edwards of Brown City; his brother Greg (Betty) Nordin of Brown City; his brother Curtis (Lynn) Nordin of Brown City; and a sister-in-law Elizabeth Nordin of Hesperia; many nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nicanor L. Nordin Sr. and an older brother, Clifford Nordin.
Memorial contributions may be made to Velma Mattson Elementary School. Memorial services will be at the Newaygo High School Gym on Sunday, January 22, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please consider the Velma Mattson Elementary School.
Mr. John Maurice Norman, Age 72 of Grant, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Friday, January 13, 2012 in Fremont.
He was born John Maurice Norman in Kalamazoo, Michigan the son of Aleen (Polack) and Jules Norman on January 24, 1939. He married Erma J. Reickard on May 24, 1960 in Grand Rapids. He was the owner/operator of Norman Business Systems and was a sales representative for several electronics firms.
He is survived by his wife Erma Norman of Grant, his children Deborah Favreau of Grant, John, Jr. & Sandy Norman of LaVerne, CA, Jeff Norman of Coopersville, and Lori Molin of Grand Rapids, his grandchildren J.J. & Ashley Norman, Eric Norman, Kevin Norman, Jamie & Justin Dunn, Michael Norman, Chase Molin, Joshua Molin, Chelsea Molin, his great granddaughter Tristen, great grandson Blayke, his brothers Larry & Betty Norman of San Tan Valley, AZ, Ron & Caralee Norman of La Mesa, CA, his sister Ann Norman of Grand Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister in law Jim & Sally Norman.

Kip Roberts, 45 of Newaygo passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at his home following a long battle of cancer.
Kip was born Feb. 2nd 1966 in Reed City to Richard and Linda Roberts. Kip graduated from Reed City High school in 1984 and later graduated from Ferris State University with an associates. Kip retired from MDOT. Kip enjoyed being with friends and family, fishing, boating, hunting, sports and being a wonderful father, husband, son, brother and friend.
He is survived by his wife Tamara Roberts, his son Alex Roberts and his daughter Amber Roberts of Newaygo. His parents Richard and Linda Roberts and sister Tammy (Roberts) Bass of Reed City. His nephews, nieces, sister in-law and brother in-laws.

Mrs. Jean M. Finney, Age 73 of Newaygo‑Grant area, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at her home in Brooks Township. She was born Jean Marie Church in Grant, the daughter of Clara Helen (Milner) and Harry Earl Church on May 20, 1938. She was a Press Operator for Continental Idenification Products, Sparta until 2000 retiring after 32 years.
She is survived by her sons Michael & Sally Finney of Grant, Denny & Deb Finney of Newaygo, 3 grandchildren, 4 great‑grandchildren, her brother Jerry Church of Grant, and sister Juanita & Robert Dietz of Fallbrook, CA.
