Mr. Glen E. King, age 54 of Newaygo, died suddenly Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his home in Garfield Township.   He was born Glen Edward King in Detroit, the son of Lahoma (Lane) and Ralph Edward King on June 24, 1956.   He was a Computer Service Tech for Agfa of California until his retirement.   He was a Life member of the VFW Post #1508, Lake Elsinor, CA.

He is survived by his sister Denise & John Walke of Ft. Gratiot, his companion Lisa Frank of Newaygo, his stepmother Marge, half brother Joseph King of Rochester, Uncle Harry Lane, Aunts Coral & George Reidt, Muriel Lane, nieces & nephews Andrea, Matthew Walke, Nicholas, Alec King, special friends from California Steve, Mehdi, Greg & families.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM from the McKinley Newaygo Chapel, on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 with Pastor Steve Vander West officiating.     Visitation will be held 2‑4 & 7‑9 PM Tuesday and 2 hours prior to service. Mr. George Van Singel, age 88 of Kent City, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Spectrum Heath-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.   He was born George Van Singel in Kent City,  the son of Jennie (Mouthaan) and Hama Van Singel on January 31, 1922. He married Marion Harriet Rillema on March 25, 1954 in Jenison. He was a Hi Lo Driver for Keeler Brass, Grand Rapids retiring in1986 after 17 years. He was a member of Grant Reformed Church.      

He is survived by his wife Marion Van Singel, his son Dale & Wanda Van Singel, his grandchildren Ryan Van Singel, Dana (Andy) Pigorsh, Jenny (Shane) McLellan, Heath Van Singel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the Grant Reformed Church, on Thursday, December 23, 2010 with Pastor Mik Sutton officiating. Mr. Dale Gene Alcorn, Age 68 of Grant, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at home. He was born Dale Gene Alcorn in Flint, Michigan the son of Eva Mae (Kecker) and Elias Alcorn, Sr. on October 24, 1942. He married Sharon Ann Hall on September 26, 1964 in Grant, Michigan and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2000. He was a Mechanic at Freedom Chevrolet until his retirement in 2005. He is survived by his daughters Deborah and Ronald Holmes of Luther and Brenda Johnson of Greenville, his grandchildren Casandra, Sara and Ron Jr. Holmes, Roger Johnson and Brittaney Arnold, and Albert Johnson and his great grandson Terek Johnson, his sisters Ruth and Larry Brock of Grant, Patricia Brock of Grant, and his brother Elias “Buck” Alcorn Jr. of Temple. Mrs. Laurevia Osburn, age 88 of Grant, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Grant Fountainview Retirement Village in Grant.   She was born Laurevia Barry in McGuffey, Ohio the daughter of Edith Irene (Fultz) and Roy Elmer Barry on January 4, 1922. She married Earl E. Osburn on June 22, 1940 in Grant and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2005. She was a Foundry worker for Sparta Foundry for 25 years until retiring in 1979.   She was a member of UAW Local #8.  

She is survived by her children David & Gloria Osburn of Newaygo, Judy & Jim Morrison of Grant, Sally Anderson, Sandra Sotelo both of Engadine, Janet & Ron Hilden of Grant,  16 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Grant Chapel, on Saturday, December 18, 2010 with Pastor Steve Vander West officiating. Mrs. Lynette Helen Mee, Age 100, of Newaygo, died Sunday, December 12, 2010. She was born Lynette Helen Seelig in Northport, Michigan the daughter of Mary (Hodek) and George Martin Ludwig on January 31, 1910. She married Kenneth Mee on July 6, 1936 in Northport and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1983. She was a Teacher for White Cloud Schools until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of United Church of Christ‑Newaygo and The Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son, Tom and Gretchen Mee of Newaygo; daughter, Nancy and Arnold Jones of Ada; granddaughter, Christine and Chad Gottschalk of OH; grandson; Andrew Jones of GA; granddaughter, Patty Boldt of Fowlerville; Great Grandchildren, Dylan Boldt, Lukas Boldt, Avery Lyn Gottschalk, and Carter Gottschalk. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Wilson, Doris Seelig, Nina Boyd, Margaret Dame, and Esther Holman.

Funeral services for Lynette will be held at 11:00 AM, at the United Church of Christ in Newaygo, on Thursday, December 16, 2010 with Rev. Jonathan Riedel & Rev. Ruth Mccarty officiating. Interment will be at the Big Prairie‑Everett Cemetery in White Cloud. Visitation will be from 2‑4 PM and 6‑8 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at McKinley Funeral Home – Newaygo Chapel. Ms. Doris O.  Taylor, age 67 of Grant, died Friday, December 10, 2010 at home in Newaygo.   She was born Doris Olive Taylor in Grant, the daughter of Ruby Mary (Brown) and Homer Osborne Taylor on June 30, 1943.   She was a Nurses Aid for Transitional Health Services, Fremont for 35 years until Sept. 2008. She attended Rice Lake Baptist Church.      

She is survived by her brothers & sisters Irene Pavlovic of Grant, Alice Burnett of Nevada, David & Elise Taylor of Mesick, Juanita & Max Boyd of Comstock Park, Adah & Leonard Erbes of Florida, George Taylor of Grant, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Funeral Home – Grant Chapel,  on Monday, December 13, 2010 with Pastor Dan Fullmer officiating. Mr. Vernon J. Westbrook, age 70 of Grant, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 in Muskegon. He was born Vernon J. Westbrook in Luther, Michigan, the son of Laverna (Ream) and Rosell Westbrook on February 15, 1940. He married Mary Lee Johnson on November 28, 1959 in Luther, Michigan. He was a maintenance foreman for Cascade Die Cast Group, Sparta until his retirement in 2004. He attended Grant Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife Mary Westbrook; his sons Richard Wesbrook of Newaygo; Mike & Merrie Westbrook; Brad Westbrook all of Grant; Greg Westbrook of Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; his siblings Russell Westbrook, Violet Flynn, Gladys Moore, Jim Westbrook, Kathy & Charlie Hendrick, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters Sheryl & Shelley Westbrook; his brothers Kenneth, Percey and Leo Westbrook and his sister Sarah Udell.

Visitation will be held 2‑4 & 7‑9 PM Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the McKinley Funeral Home, Newaygo Chapel.  Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. from the Grant Assembly of God, 112 Commerce, Grant, on Sunday, December 19, 2010 with Pastor Jamie Evans officiating.  For  Memorials please consider the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Thomas Edward Schmid, Age 64 of Newaygo, Michigan passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at home. He was born Thomas Edward Schmid in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Estelle Joann (Rogalski) and Ludwig John Schmid on January 26, 1946.  He graduated of Brecksville High School in Ohio, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio and Cornell University in New York with a Masters of Science with expertise in Metallurgy.   He was an engineering manager for Pratt‑Whitney Jet Engines in West Palm Beach, Florida until his retirement in December 2000 after 30 years.  He enjoyed dancing, skiing, bowling, boating and fishing.  He is survived by his loving partner Doris Parker of Newaygo, his son Andrew & Nicole Schmid of Daytona Beach, FL, his grandchildren Aaren, Lauren and Brandon Schmid, his sister Susan & Ham Loughry and his brother in law Ed Deditch. He is also survived by Doris’ father Forest & Shirley Parker, her mother Colleen Tyson of Newaygo, her siblings Ed & Cheryl Parker, Kathi Parker, Theresa & John Parminter, Laura Parker, Colleen & Ron Hood, Debbie & Steve Dye, Susan & Matt Hornbeck, Dan & Leila Smith, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ludwig & Estelle Schmid, his sister Lois Deditch and Doris’ brother Loren Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Funeral Home Newaygo Chapel on Thursday, December 9, 2010 with Mr. Jonathan Greene officiating. Interment will be in Newaygo Cemetery. Mrs. Lila Mae Sheldon, Age 89 of Newaygo, formerly of Grant, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 near Fremont.  She was born Lila Mae Brown in Grant, Michigan the daughter of Flossie (Spinks) and George Brown on July 8, 1921.  She will be remembered for her love of family, her independent hard working personality, and the true friendships that she made throughout her lifetime.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her “grand cats”.  Lila was a beautiful knitter and the “Best Pie Maker in Newaygo County!”  She was a waitress for Senecal’s, the A&W, Johnny’s, Northstar Café, and Valley Inn Restaurants until her retirement.  She participated in the Newaygo United Methodist Women’s Groups. Survived by her daughter Marian & Ken Shimnowski of Paw Paw, her son‑in‑law Art Westcott of Newaygo, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her son Jim Wendt of Seoul, Korea in 2007, her daughter Judy Westcott of Newaygo in 2008, and her parents and three siblings.  Memorial services will be held at later date.  For memorials please consider the Newaygo County Animal Shelter.
