Mr. Carl Adam "Chuck" Malsom, Age 87 of Newaygo, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at home. He was born Carl Adam Malsom in Collyer, Kansas the son of Mary (Keller) and Fred Malsom on January 21, 1923. Chuck joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was a ship fitter 3rd class and survived the sinking of the CVE79 Ommaney Bay in the battle of Leyte Gulf in the Phillipines. Chuck and Norma married at the Puget Sound Naval Yard Chapel in 1945 and came to Michigan after they were discharged from the U.S. Navy. Chuck owned and operated a portable welding service during the time of the Newaygo oil field operations. Later he worked as a welder/carpenter for Dawes Fermentation in Newaygo and in Harbor Beach. In 1974 the family moved to Cary, IL where he worked for Searle Biochemist and Amersham Corporation until his retirement in 1988. Chuck and Norma traveled extensively in the western United States during their retirement, spending summers at their home on Cottonwood Flats on the Muskegon River. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Malsom, his children Carl Malsom Jr. of Newaygo, Joe & Barbara Malsom of Kalamazoo, Sholi & Horace Roberts of Crawfordville, FL, Teresa & Michael Tuohy of El Cajon, CA, Jean & Mitchell George of Newaygo, Mike & Diane Malsom of Newaygo, Barbara Shockley of Denver, CO, Jim & Cindy Malsom of North Carolina, Tom & Toni Malsom of Newaygo, 22 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his brothers Larry Malsom of Denver, CO, Tony Malsom of Collyer, KS, John Malsom of Ft. Bragg, CA, Jim Yanda of Salmon, WA, Vern Malsom of Lima, OH, his sisters Kathryn Quinter, Barbara Park, Carol Quinter, Rita Quinter all of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his brothers George, Frank, Ted, Steve and Richard. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo on Friday, July 2, 2010 with Father Peter Shafer officiating. Interment in St. Bartholomew Cemetery. Mrs. Sandra J. Moberg, age 67 of Norton Shores, and formerly of Grant passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Mercy Partners Sherman Campus in Muskegon. She was born Sandra Joy Moberg in Melrose Park, Illinois the daughter of Hazel (Gustafson) and Bertil Moberg on December 21, 1942. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in psychology from Augustana College in Illinois. She was a Preschool Teacher for Newaygo Day Care Corp. until 2009 retiring after 23 years, was a member of Grant Community Church, and a Foster Grandma for the Catholic Charities West of Michigan .
She is survived by her children Jennifer & Todd Bustard of Norton Shores, Susan & Mike Stears of White Pigeon, William & Debbie Butchart of Grant, Erik & Jennifer Butchart of Quincy, Andrew & Melissa Butchart of Sault Ste. Marie, 15 grandchildren, her sisters Gayle & Larry Csajaghy of Arlington Hts., IL. Donna & Tom Krolak of Barrington, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the Grant Community Church, on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 with Pastor Steve Vander West officiating. Interment in Ashland Center Cemetery. Mrs. Ida Alice Long, age 85 of Bailey, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born Ida Alice Varvil in Maroa, Illinois the daughter of Effie (Van Horn) and John Varvil on January 7, 1925. She married Charles Dolan Long on September 17, 1940 in Hillsboro, Missouri and he preceded her in death on August 7, 1994. She was a Parts Inspector for Keeler Brass, Grand Rapids until 1975 after 20 years.
She is survived by her children Terry & Wanda Long of Kent City, Linda Hug of Grand Rapids, Michael & Rosemary Long of Bailey, Carilla & Steve Kosheba of Casnovia, Susan Long of Bailey, Jill & Jerry Miller of Bailey, 10 grand children, 17 great grandchildren & several great great grandchildren. her brothers Elmer "Bud" Varvil of OR, Charles Harrington of WA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Grant Chapel, on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 with Pastor Chris Weeks officiating. Interment in Idlewild Cemetery near Kent City. Mr. Edward J. Dombrowski, age 80 of Newaygo, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born Edward Joseph Dombrowski in Grand Rapids, the son of Anna (Trusinki) and Marvin Dombrowski on July 1, 1929. He married Rose Arlene Williams on December 18, 1965 in Morley. He was a Material Handler for General Motors in Grand Rapids until 1990 retiring after 30 years. He attended River Valley Community Church, was a member of Elks Club in Ludington, and the UAW Local #1231.
He is survived by his wife Rose Dombrowski of Newaygo, his children, grandchildren, & great‑grandchildren.

Mr. Joseph Timothy Pulaski, Age 47 of Howard City, died Monday, May 31, 2010 in Ensley. He was born Joseph Timothy Pulaski in Lansing, Michigan the son of Violet Evelyn (Koon) and Bert Mark Pulaski on November 7, 1962. He was a Police officer in Grant and a Corrections Officer for Newaygo County Sherriff. He is survived by his parents Bert & Vi Pulaski of Newaygo, his siblings Mark & Victoria Pulaski of Newaygo, Theresa & Chris Scheldt of North Muskegon, his nephews Cory, Kevin, and Eric Pulaski and Chris and Marshall Scheldt, his niece Stephanie Scheldt, his grandmother Viola Koon of Grand Rapids and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo with Father Pete Schafer officiating.
