Bob’s outrageous sense of humor often at the expense of his family was legendary. He loved the woods and spent many hours just making a wood lot as God intended it to be. You might have seen him on the road riding his bike. Or crossing the road on his perfectly restored 60 year old tractor with a load of wood. He was extremely well read and had a full library of political and autobiographical books, war histories and general information. May young people will remember coming into his woods campground at Hardy Dam Pond where they were always made welcome, and ate up all of his famous wood grilled chicken! His main God given shining talent was listening to children, sharing their stories, listening to their troubles, sharing their joys and being there for them. During many gatherings anywhere someone would ask "Where’s Bob" the answer would always be, "he’s out there with the kids". His famous "Kid Jig Dance" never failed to make even the smallest child laugh. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Where’s Bob? He’s up there with the Kids.

Danny Lee Penwell, 68, died April 18, 2010 at his home in Chattanooga, TN.
A service will be held at 11:00, April 22 at Kent City Baptist Church in Kent City, MI. Visitation will be at McKinley Funeral Home, Grant, MI on April 21 from 2:00-4:00, and from 7:00-9:00. His sons, Daren and Derek Penwell will be officiating.
He was born February 21, 1942, in Buchanan, Michigan to Harry and Mildred (Proud) Penwell. His father was a farmer, and his mother a hair dresser.
Danny graduated from Buchanan High School in 1960. He attended and graduated from Great Lakes Bible College in 1964, where he met and married Gloria (Murray). He went on to graduate from Lincoln Christian Seminary in 1970 with a Master of Divinity. He was as a minister in the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ until 1972, when he went to work for Zondervan Family Book Stores, ultimately moving into the marketing and purchasing departments. After 18 years, he made the transition to editor for World Bible, Hendrickson, and AMG Publishers, from which he retired in 2008 as Acquisitions Editor.
Danny’s colleagues warmly remember him as a thoughtful and caring editor, enthusiastically encouraging authors, and working with them to produce memorable (and publishable) manuscripts. He is credited by numerous authors for having helped them find their voices and establishing them in the publishing industry.
An avid golfer and traveler, Danny scoured the landscape in search of golf courses and restaurants appropriate to his discriminating taste. Moreover, as a forlorn Chicago Cubs fan, he waited (in futility, as it turns out) with millions of other Cub fans for a World Series championship. His family, as well as his library, containing thousands of volumes, on the other hand, offered him great comfort.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gloria; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Susan (Parks) of Louisville, KY; son and daughter-in-law, Daren and Lisa (Betts) of Bailey, MI; daughter and son-in-law, Darcey and Brian Bekins of Grandville, MI; son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Andrea (Hudson) of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Brittany and Madison Penwell, Samuel, Mary, and Dominic Parks-Penwell, Carson and Maxwell Bekins, and Riley Penwell; his mother, Millie, and sister, Janet Seals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Danny Penwell scholarship fund for writers at classeminars@gmail.com.
