Mrs. Genevieve Leone Cotie, Age 89 of Fremont, formerly of Grant, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 in Fremont.   She was born Genevieve Leone Davis in Bridgeton, Michigan the daughter of Mable Mae (Hennegan) and Fredrick Davis on January 29, 1920. She married William Cotie on April 10, 1968 in East St. Louis, Illinois. She was a Electronics Technician for Key Instrument Company, Burbank, CA for many years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Fremont.  She is survived by her husband William Cotie of Fremont, her daughters Nancy Jean & Ben Stevens of Calvert City, KY, Elaine & Arthur Tibbetts of White City, OR, her son Christopher Cotie of Portland, OR, 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her grandson Arthur Tibbetts. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM from the Ashland Center Cemetery, Grant on Friday, October 30, 2009 with Pastor Mark Ruley officiating. Mr. William Joseph Householder, Age 85 of Grand Haven, formerly of White Cloud, died Friday, October 23, 2009 in Muskegon. He was born William Joseph Householder in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Rose (La Garra) and Earl Householder on July 26, 1924. He married Ruth June Brown on December 1987 and she preceded him in death on June 6, 2009. He was a semi driver for Steelcase. He was a member of Community Fellowship Church in Bridgeton. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his sons Tim & Brenda Householder of Jenison, James Matthew Householder of North Port, FL, his step daughter Pat Boes of Spring Lake, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his sister Martha Ann Wade of North Benton, OH, his brother Robert Tafe of Arizona, and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his great grandson Zachary Michael Stoehr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the Community Fellowship Church, Bridgeton on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 with Pastor Mike King officiating. Interment in Lakeshore Cemetery, Grand Haven. Mr. Gerald E. Vander West, age 78 of Grant, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at his home in Grant Township.   He was born Gerald Eugene Vander West in Wyoming, Michigan the son of Wilhelmina (Van Galen) and Clarence Vander West on February 6, 1931. He married Joyce Irene Wallinga on September 25, 1951 in Allendale and she preceded him in death on November 8, 1998. He then married Darlene Kay Willbrandt on December 4, 1999 in Ravenna. He was a self-employed Diary Farmer for 40 years until 1987. He was a member of Pine Grove Community Church.  

He is survived by his wife Darlene Vander West, his children Gary & Jeryl Vander West of Pelkic, Karen & Dale Hooker of Byron Center, Linda Nelson of Ravenna, Steven & Maryjo Vander West of Newaygo, his step‑children Tammy Van Doorne, Jeffrey Willbrandt, Teresa & Mark Vander Sloot, 8 grandchildren, 11 great‑grandchildren, his brother Roger & Winona Vander West of Grand Rapids, his sister Betty & John Campau of Zeeland. He was preceded in death by wife Joyce, son Mark, son‑in‑law Duane Nelson. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM from the Pine Grove Community Church, Howard City on Saturday, October 24, 2009 with Pastor Steve Vander West officiating. Military honors are under the auspices of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo.  Interment will be in the Allendale Township Cemetery.   Visitation will be held 6‑8 PM Friday and one hour prior to services at Pine Grove Community Church. Mr. Gerald Nylaan, Age 79 of Newaygo, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at home. He was born Gerald Nylaan in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of Sue (Ouwinga) and Harry Nylaan on May 31, 1930. He married Barbara on June 23, 1951 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a tool and die maker for Rapid Die and Engineering until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Barbara Nylaan of Newaygo, his children Christina & Steve Coleman of Newaygo, Patricia & Bob Lewis of Kentwood, Daniel & Patricia Nylaan of Holland, Marie & Rick Bierema of Cutlerville, Larry & Kristine Nylaan of Cedar Springs, Caroline Nylaan of Bradington, FL, 26 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, his brothers Melvin & Marlene Nylaan of Belmont, Arvin & Barbara Nylaan of Grandville, Harold & Myrt Nylaan of Jenison,  Sidney & Ginny Nylaan of Kentwood, his sisters Joey & Howard Camps of Wyoming, Margie & Sanford Leesema of Grand Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters Mary Jo Nylaan and Loretta Nylaan, his brother Edward Nylaan, his sister Jean Berends, and his grandson Jason Lewis. Mrs. Peggy Ball, Age 91 of Newaygo, died Monday, October 19, 2009 in Garfield Twp.  She was born Peggy  Cartwright in Burnips, Michigan the daughter of Rose (Bush) and George Cartwright on April 20, 1918. She married Howard Ball in 1941 in Allegan Co., Michigan and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was a Homemaker all her life.  She is survived by her sons Vern & Sandra Ball of Newaygo, Gary & Virginia Ball of Grand Rapids, Lynn & Ellen Ball of Jenison, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter and her sister Florence Jones of Hopkins.  She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Ball and her children Keith, Kenneth, Alan and Ginger.  There will be no services or visitation.

Mr. Randall C. Maczka, age 56 of Grant, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at his home in Ashland Township.   He was born Randall Cary Maczka in Grand Rapids, the son of Vera Leone (Shuck) and Daniel Roman Maczka on November 14, 1952.   He was a self-employed Laminate Installer 2007 retiring after 37 years. 

He is survived by wife Christina Maczka, his daughters Lisa Maczka of Grant, Kendra & Russell Winters of Ft. Sill, OK, 2 grandchildren, his sisters Karen Maczka of Grand Rapids, Debbie & Ron Harp of Traverse City.  He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel & Vera Maczka and granddaughter Annika Maczka.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the Ashland Center Cemetery, near Grant on Monday, October 19, 2009. There will be no visitation. For Memorials please consider the family in lieu of flowers.

Mr. John Mouthaan, aged 86 of Kent City, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at his home. He was born John Mouthaan September 26, 1923 in Kent City, the son of Jesse (Puite) and John Mouthaan.  He married Dorothy I. Osburn October 5, 1951 in Grant and she preceded him in death July 13, 1991. John was employed as a Foreman for Lamar Pipe Co. in Grand Rapids for 30 years retiring in 1986.  He was a member and very active of the Grant Reformed Church where he served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and was President of the Northern Michigan Classis.  John was a veteran of World War II having served from June 12, 1945 until January 30, 1947 being discharged as a CPL.

John is survived by his children Ken & Faith Mouthaan, Gerald & Paula Mouthaan all of Kent City, Carol & Kevin Newton of Muskegon and 9 grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Grant Reformed Church with Pastor Mik Sutton officiating. Military graveside honors under the auspices of the VFW Post #4249 of Newaygo will be at the Hillside Cemetery near Grant following the church services. Mr. Richard D. Bonter, age 78 of Ravenna, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Mercy Health Partners-Sherman Campus in Muskegon.   He was born Richard Duane Bonter in Bailey, the son of Selma Sophia (Dahl) and Arba Glenn Bonter on October 12, 1931. He married Gayle Yvonne Veihl on May 2, 1953 in Grant and she preceded him in death on August 3, 2001. He then married Carol Lynn Riddle on February 15, 2005 in Muskegon. He was a Meat Inspector for the USDA until 1993 retiring after 30 years. He was a member of First Reformed Church of Ravenna.   

He is survived by his wife Carol Bonter of Ravenna, his children David & Karen Bonter of Traverse City, Jeffery Bonter of Holland, Jill Knoper of Allendale, Julie Bonter of Zeeland, his son‑in‑law Lynden Wyant of Custer, his step‑children Wesley & Libby Booher of Dundee, Leon & Janice Booher of Northville, Joy & Brad Stevenson of California, Pamela Booher of Connecticut, Chris & Sarah Riddle of Whitehall, 10 grandchildren, 1 great‑granddaughter, his sisters Ferne & Owen Hallberg of Newaygo, Leota & LeRoy Scott of Norton Shores, his sisters‑in‑law Edna Bonter of Kent City, Beverly Bonter of Grant, brother‑in‑law Doug & Carolyn Veihl of Mears.  He was preceded in death by his wife Gayle Bonter in 2001, his daughter Cindy Wyant in 2005, 7 brother & 2 sisters.

Mrs. Betty J. Frey, age 79 of Grant, and formerly of Bailey, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Fountianview Retirement Village of Grant.   She was born Betty Jane Hoaglin in Muskegon, the daughter of Carrie L. (Hartman) and Clarence Hoaglin on January 26, 1930. She married Donald Wilbur Frey on July 5, 1947 in Ensley Center and he preceded her in death on March 5, 2007. She was a Baker for Hilltop Bakery, Bailey until 1990 retiring after 30 years. She was a member of Bailey Christian Church.      

She is survived by her children Dale & Donna Frey of Grand Rapids, Norma Bonter of Grant, Diane Frey of Bailey, 8 grandchildren, 20 great‑grandchildren, her 7 siblings, and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Grant Chapel, on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 with Mr. Daren Penwell officiating. Interment will be in the Seaman Cemetery near Bailey.   Visitation will be 6‑8 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Lucy May (Brant) Peck, Age 101 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Newaygo, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 in Grand Rapids. She was born Lucy May Gilman in Freeland, Michigan the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth (Faulds) and Arthur Eugene Gilman on December 6, 1907. She married Douglas A. Brant in 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan and he preceded her in death in 1978. She then married Bill Peck in 1979 in Newaygo and he preceded her in death in 1989. She was a homemaker all her life. She was a founding member of the Sportsmans Club in Newaygo. She is survived by her grandchildren Karen & Timothy VanAntwerpen of Hudsonville, David & Martha Gabrielse of Newaygo, Douglas Gabrielse of Cedar Springs, Kevin & Candi Gabrielse of Coloma, her great grandchildren Cade & Jennifer and Tyler VanAntwerpen, Emily, Kyle, and Caitlin Gabrielse, great great grandson Maddox VanAntwerpen, her step‑daughters Barbara & Michael Moyes of Grand Ledge, Judy & Roger Wynsma of Holland, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
