Hernandez – Mrs. Tomasa Leal Hernandez, aged 80, of Grant died Saturday at the of home her daughter. She was born Tomasa Leal July 14, 1928, the daughter of Margarita (Olvera) and Pedro Leal in Edinburg, Texas. She married Ramon Hernandez April 26, 1952 in Edinburg, Texas and he preceded her in death April 14, 1993. Mrs. Hernandez was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission near Grant.

She is survived by her children San Juana Hernandez, Pedro Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Ricardo & Stacey Hernandez all of Grant, Jesus & Jane Hernandez of Byron Center, 10 grandchildren, her sisters & brothers Santos Leal of Grant, Dominga Contreras of McAllen, Texas, Juan & Lupita Gonzalez of Edinburg, Texas and Eusebio Gonzalez of Fremont.

A Rosary will be held 7:30 PM, Monday, March 30 at the McKinley Grant Chapel and Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 31, at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Mr. William A. Duncan, age 85 of Newaygo,  died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at his home in Brooks Township.   He was born William Alfred Duncan in Escanaba, Michigan the son of Christina (Dishnaw) and Charles Duncan on May 5, 1923. He married Dorothy Alberta Simmons on July 13, 1971 in Wyoming, Michigan and she preceded him in death on May 23, 2006. He was a Assembly Lineman for General Motors, Grand Rapids until his retirement.       He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II from January 20, 1943 to January 2, 1943 when he was discharged as a PFC.  He is survived by his niece Virginia Schmidt of Newaygo. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Newaygo Chapel, on Saturday, April 4, 2009 with Pastor David Andrew officiating.   There will be no visitation.

Mr. William George Hall, Age 89 of Newaygo, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Haines City, Florida.  He was born William George Hall in Bessemer, Michigan the son of Bertha (Palmer) and George Hall on August 6, 1919.  He married Cleo Marie Powell on November 23, 1950 in Grant.  He was an Engineer for Sand Mold Foundry in Newaygo until 1981.  He was a charter/life member VFW Post #4249 Newaygo; a life member of Newaygo Masonic Lodge; he served on the Newaygo Village Council in the early 1960’s. He was a veteran having served in the Navy during World War II  from September 14, 1938 to September 15, 1945 and the Korean War from September 18, 1951 to February 2, 1953 when he was discharged as a EMPCA.  He is survived by his wife Cleo Hall of Newaygo, his sons Brian Hall of Newaygo and Bruce Hall of Millis, MA, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his brother Robert Hall of Newaygo.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the VFW Post #4249, Newaygo on Thursday, March 26, 2009 with Mr. Larry Norburg officiating.  Interment in Newaygo Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the service time.  For memorials please consider Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe, N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49505.

Gonzalez – Mr. Jesse D. Gonzalez, age 42, of Renfrew, PA and formerly of Grant died unexpectedly at his residence. He was born Jesse David Gonzalez July 5, 1966 in Grant the son of Rachel (Vasquez) and Jesse Charles Gonzalez. He married Anna Marie Santellan June 20, 1992 in Butler Count, PA. Jesse was employed by Mine Safety Appliance for the past 12 years in the Assembly Operations. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo. 

He is survived by his wife Anna (Santellan) Gonzalez of Renfrew, PA; his sons Jonathan & Antonio Gonzalez, his God daughter Chloe Wagner, his parents Jesse & Rachel Gonzalez, his brothers and sisters Rebecca & Valentin Rodriquez, Randy Gonzalez all of Grant, Gabriel & Debbie Gonzalez of Alice, TX, Delia & Daniel Zuniga of Grand Rapids, John & Shellie Gonzalez of Grant, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Monday, March 23, 2009 at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday at the McKinley Funeral Home Grant Chapel. Interment will be in the Ashland Center Cemetery near Grant. Mr. Gerhard Bol, age 85 of Grant, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Transition Health Services near Fremont. He was born Gerhard Bol in Grant, the son of Cora (Fielstra) and John Bol on February 3, 1924. He married Marjorie Abrahams on January 22, 1944 in Grant. He was a Self‑employed Vegetable Farmer for 40 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of Grant Reformed Church and was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II from April 17, 1945 to October 16, 1946 when he was discharged as a TEC 5.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie (Abrahams) Bol, his children Beverly & Bruce Walkley, Pamela Briggs, Gary Bol all of Grant, Gloria & Tim Storm of Cedar Springs, and his grandchildren Stephen Walkley, Angela Walkley, John Kent. He was preceded in death by grandson Craig Briggs.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the Grant Reformed Church, on Friday, March 20, 2009 with Mr. David Koopman officiating. Interment will be in the Parkview Cemetery in Grant. Mrs. Patricia Slade, aged 81 of Wyoming, died Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Sanctuary at St. Mary’s in Walker. She was born Patricia Thomas December 24, 1927 in Newaygo, the daughter of Anna (Graboski) and Stanley Thomas. She was employed as the Quality control inspector for 40 years at McInerey Inc.

She is survived by her grandchildren Teresa & Maros Lopez, Robert & Robyn Daniels, Mark & Sarah Cobb, Martha & Michael Ruggles, grand-grandchildren Mark, Erika, Liana, Ryleigh, Aaron, Nathen, Cade and Mayci, her siblings Stanley, Henry, Vivian and Betty. She was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Ruggles and siblings Helen, Joseph, Nellie, James, Philip and Mary.

Memorial Services will be held 11 AM Friday, March 6, 2009 at the McKinley Funeral Home – Grant Chapel with Father Tom Bufford officiating.
