HagedornMr. Leo R. Hagedorn, age 76 of Newaygo, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Fremont. He was born Leo Robert Hagedorn in Hastings, the son of Emma (Kerr) and Otto Hagedorn on September 26, 1936. He married Nora Winfield on September 30, 1961 in Grand Rapids. He was a Michigan State Police Officer until 1988. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of Allegro Camping Group; Michigan State Police Troopers Association.

He is survived by his wife Nora Hagedorn, his children Leo & Doris Hagedorn of Traverse City, Mike & Rachel Hagedorn of Houston, TX, Jill & Scott Bleisath of Bay Village, OH, his grandchildren Adam, Micah Hagedorn, Isaac, Caroline Hagedorn, Katelyn, William, Ally Bleisath, his sister Cora Fezette of Ontario, OR, his brother Dale & Sherry Hagedorn of Mason, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM from the First Baptist Church‑Newaygo, on Friday, May 17, 2013 with Pastor Wesley Smith officiating. Interment: Grandville Cemetery. Candace Kay Rosel, age 64, of Croton, Michigan was called to be with our Lord and Savior on May 13th from the comfort of her home, while surrounded by family.  Surviving are her children, Fredrick Jr. (Mary Ellen) Rosel and Dawn (Scott) Bush; grandchildren Tyler, Jacob, Lucas, Sophia, Natalie, and Claire.  Siblings Jerry (Diane ) Gardner, James Gardner, Barbara (Al) Milner, Bonnie (Jim) Hufnagel, Ruthann (Pat) Brann.  She was the owner, operator of Riverside Resort in Croton where for the past 20 years she had the capacity to touch many people’s lives.  Those that came as a guest, left as a friend.  Candy, as she was known to many, has left an impact of all those who knew her.  She walked every day for Christ and planted many seeds in the hearts of those she encountered.   Visitation will be Friday, May 17th from 5-8 at Croton Community Church.  The funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Croton Community Church.  Funeral services provided by McKinley Funeral home. Mrs. Donna E. Edson, age 78 of Fremont, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Fremont. She was born Donna Belle Elizabeth Stocker in Fremont, the daughter of Irene May (Longcore) and Roy H. Stocker on April 21, 1935. She married Donald J. Edson on July 1, 1972 in Union Lake and he preceded her in death on September 13, 2006. She was a Homemaker all her life.

She is survived by her children Vicky Zerlaut of Fremont, Jerry & Vivian Smith of White Cloud, Douglas Barefoot , Brenda Barefoot both of Waterford, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren,her brothers and sister Vern & Dee Stocker,Ron Stocker, Linda & Wilbur Jordan.

Mrs. Donna Mae McDowell, age 73 of Newaygo, went to be with the Lord, Friday, April 26, 2013 Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born Donna Mae DeWindt in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Janet (Hovinga) and Steward DeWindt on February 5, 1940. She married James Stanley McDowell on June 6, 1958 in Hudsonville. She was a Homemaker all her life and was a member of the Big Prairie Community Church.

She survived by her husband James McDowell, her children Julie (Dave) Ellis, Larry (Debbie) McDowell,  Brenda (Allen) Sobleskey, her grandchildren Jamie Hasting, Justin (Blaire) Bockheim, Nicole McDowell, James McDowell, Audrey Sobleskey, Drake Sobleskey, 4 great grandchildren, her brothers & sisters Steve (Ann) DeWindt, Bernie DeWindt, Dale (Sally) DeWindt, Ken (Katie) DeWindt, Rose Mary (Tim) Crowley, Pam (Don) DeVlieger. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Shirley DeWindt.

Mrs. Enid R. Schuitman, age 90 of Newaygo, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at home. She was born Enid Roberta Ball in Byron Center,the daughter of Mabel (Thiel) and Earl Alonza Ball on September 25, 1922. She married Gordon J. Schuitman on March 11, 1943 in Grandville, Michigan. She was a Beautician for Grandville Beauty Shop until 1985. She was a member of Newaygo United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Gordon Schuitman of Newaygo, her daughters Bonnie & Roger Nyenhuis of Fife Lake and Carolyn & Tom Devlin of Grand Rapids, 4 grandchildren Brenda (Todd) Witteveen, Karin (Jerry) Toothman, Rick Nyenhuis, Kris (Mark) DeKleine; 6 great grandchildren Rachael (Nate), Ashleigh, Aubrie, Taylor, Jordyn and Nick, and 4 great great grandchildren Trevor, Paton, Trenton and Kolton.

Virginia Hackney, 87, from Newaygo, died Friday, April 12, 2013, in her son’s home from a long illness. Virginia was born in the Redford Township, Michigan area on November 6, 1925.

Her survivors are her four children, Donald Dukelow, Robert Dukelow, Betty Wimmer, and Patricia Million. She has four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Nelson and Bessie Clark, siblings, Ruth Schuler, Helen Garcia, and Raymond Clark, her husband, Charley Hackney, son, Richard Dukelow, and grandson, Daniel Burnett.

Ms. Pamela Sue McTaggert, age 55 of Grant, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at her home in Grant. She was born Pamela Sue McTaggert in Neptune, New Jersey, the daughter of Leona Faye (Wilds) and Richard Delano McTaggert on May 12, 1957. She was a Nurses Aid for Whispering Woods of Grand Rapids until June, 2000.

She is survived by her nephew Richard & Brenda Stafford, her great niece Megan Stafford, her mother Edna McTaggert, her sisters Debra Kay McTaggert, Vicki & Dale Price, Rhonda & James Harris, Carol & David VanNoortwick, Shelly Burns, Sherrie Denovan, Tammy Sue & Philip Boyette, T.J. & Charles Randal, Connie & Jeremy Wilson, her brother Jeff Burns. Clifford Leroy Mitchell, age 68, of Grant passed away on April 2nd surrounded by family telling him stories. He is survived by his wife Babycakes (Marvel), daughters Maxi (Ang) and Carl Brisbin, Debbidy (Deb) Mitchell and Farah Nembhard, and Tricky (Barb) and Steve Gorecki. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Pokey (C.J.), Butchy (Amber), Bo (Bridget), Bailee Bug (Bailee), Toughy (Mackenzie), and PeeWee (Zyra); his siblings Sharon and Dan Pierce, Karen and Truman Redding, Gary and Deb Mitchell, and Tom Longcore. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Mitchell; mother, Doris Redding; and sister, Jane Longcore. Mr. Lee A. Gates, age 77 of Fremont, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home in Bridgeton Township. He was born Lee A. Gates in Bridgeton Township near Fremont, the son of Evelyn May (DeBois) and Russell Allen Gates, Sr. on August 25, 1935. Lee was employed as a Bar Code maker for 35 years at the Gerber Products Company in Fremont. He was a member of Cobb Trygstad Anderson American Legion Post #397.  Lee also served his country in the Army.

He is survived by his grandchildren Courtney Bower, Brandon Bower, his brothers Jim & Rena Gates, Ford Gates.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM from the McKinley Grant Chapel, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 with Pastor Wesley Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Bridgeton Cemetery. Military Honors will be under the Auspices of the Cobb Trygstad Anderson American Legion Post #397 of Holton.

Mr. Larry A. Brown, age 56 of Grant, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home near Grant. He was born Larry Allen Brown in Bailey, the son of Thelma Mae (Larson) and Stanley M. Brown on February 22, 1957. He married Tia Lynn Turco on 1993 in White Cloud. He was a Machine Builder/ Fabricator for Knape & Vogt Manufacturing until 1996. He was a member of the Ravenna Free Methodist Church, he built musical instruments and was an accomplished Banjo player.

He is survived by his wife Tia, his children Allen & Dianna Brown of Grant, Joe & Holly Brown of Newaygo, Jake & Jana Shavalier of Grand Rapids, Lacy Shavalier of White Cloud, 1 grandson, his brothers and sister Tom & Karen Brown, Stanley & Ann Brown, Steve & Terry Brown, Tammy Brown, Tim & Jean Brown.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM from the Ravenna Free Methodist Church, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 with Pastor Rick Ferris officiating.
