Mr. Lewis J. Dingman, age 77 of Newaygo passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Fountainview in Grant. He grew up on Croswell, Michigan the son of Irving and Ella (Jarrett) Dingman. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with a teaching degree. Lewis taught school in Alpena and Grand Rapids Public Schools for several years. He also worked for Magic Finishing retiring in 1997. After his retirement he substitute taught in Newaygo County. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Terry Dingman , children; Sean Dingman, Mollie Hackman, Jennifer (Bryce) Schultz, grandchildren; Kiersten (Andrew) Chikingo, Arianne (Jarrod) Taylor, Connor Hackman, Caleb, Alyssa and Grayson Schultz, great-grandsons; Noah Taylor and Aaron Chekingo and sister; Sharon Caylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Fritz Dingman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 30 Justice Street, Newaygo, MI with Rev. Mary J. Frens officiating. Mr. Raymond F. Oppenhuizen, Sr., age 87 of Grant, passed away peacefully at Spectrum Health Wednesday, December 4, 2013. He married Mary E. (Bauder) Oppenhuizen on May 20, 1949 in Beaver Dam, Michigan. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp and was the owner of Oppie’s Excavating in Grant for 25 years. He is survived by his sons, Ray and Sandy Oppenhuizen, David and Melanie Oppenhuizen all of Grant; his daughter-in-law, Deb Oppenhuizen Cotter of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Nicole and Rick Smith, Luke and Angie Oppenhuizen, Andrew and Tracy Oppenhuizen, Nathan and Krista Oppenhuizen, Angie and Brent Watson, Luis Oppenhuizen, Jasmine and Kevin Pinchot, C.J. Oppenhuizen; his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jaxson, Talan, Maddie, Jullian, Kessler, Jackson and Gunner; his brother, Ron and Sherri Oppenhuizen of Irons, MI and Sister-in-law, Arlene Oppenhuizen of Hudsonville. Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Mary Oppenhuizen, sons, Dennis Oppenhuizen, infant son, Oppenhuizen and siblings, Ann VanHeck Kennedy, Gert and Mike Scholten, John and Margaret Oppenhuizen, Ruth and Bernie Knoper, Carol and Dean Huyser-Sage and Harry Oppenhuizen. Mrs. Norma Arlene McNees, Age 87 of Sand Lake, Michigan died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at home. She was born Norma Arlene Woodard in Saranac, Michigan the daughter of Thelma Beulah (Wheaton) and George Wallage Woodard on September 30, 1926. She married Henry McNees on November 15, 1943 in Grand Rapids and he preceded her in death on November 6, 2013. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughters Pamela Hansen of Comstock Park and Vicky Jensen and her husband Oscar Garcia of Sand Lake, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 1 great great grandson, her siblings Lawrence & Helen Woodard of Rockford, Gloria & Walter Curtis of Grand Haven, and her sister in Law Virginia Woodard of Grant. Christian Harry Will, Jr., 93, of Newaygo, MI, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 in Cascade, MI.
Chris was born May 2, 1920, in Detroit, the son of Christian Sr. and Alice Will. He married Ardyce Adelle (Swanson) Will on Dec. 9, 1944, and raised three children and several generations of Scottish terriers in Grand Rapids, before retiring to their weekend home in Newaygo in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ardyce, and his sons Douglas Will in 1990, and Russell Will in 2006.
Chris was an Army sergeant during World War II and served as an X-ray technician while stationed in Greenland. He attended Wayne State University to study engineering, and then spent four decades working for Lear Siegler (later Smith Industries) as an aeronautics engineer.
Chris was dedicated to his family, always loving to “be of service.” He was the family chauffeur, taxiing grandchildren to dance lessons, piano lessons and school, and was always happy to run errands any time he was needed. He had an incurable sweet tooth, and could be found most mornings with a sweet roll, cup of coffee, and his beloved newspaper. He was unfailingly kind to everyone. He was devoted to his wife, and lived his life to take care of “mama.”
He is survived by his daughter, Merrigail (Greg) VanWyck; his grandchildren, Krista (Alan) Babbitt, Brad (Kate) VanWyck, Russell Will Jr., Michael Will, Annika (Matt) Belasco and Abigail VanWyck; and his great-grandchildren, James VanWyck, Madeleine Babbitt, and Elise Babbitt.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years Nina (Bixler) Chrysler, parents, Otto & Marian Colvin, brother Bill and sister Denise. Walter is survived by wife Eileen Chrysler, their children, David Chrysler, Rick Chrysler, Brenda (Michael Moore) Cook, Paul (Jackie) Logan, Karri Curry and fiancé Tony Hart, Lisa (Sandy) Ulrich, Dawn (Curtis) Channells, Phil Chrisler, 28 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, Nina’s brothers and sisters, Eileen’s brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Homer J. McLeod Jr., Age 85 of Newaygo died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at home. He was born Homer J. McLeod Jr. in Cadillac, Michigan the son of Mabel (Dorland) and Homer J. McLeod, Sr. on April 13, 1928. He was a truck Driver for Georgia‑Pacific until his retirement. He served in the Navy from April 16, 1946 to February 12, 1948 and was discharged as a Seam First Class. He is survived by his children Randy & Tamara McLeod of Newaygo, Rodney McLeod of White Cloud, Rory McLeod of White Cloud, Rocky & Donna McLeod of Newaygo, Ryan & Patti McLeod of Newaygo, and Renee & Joe Pell of Fremont, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his brothers Bernard McLeod, Jack McLeod, his sisters Betty Wagner, and Donna Kern. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Amanda McLeod. Mr. Max Henry Johnson, age 71 of Grant, Michigan died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Grand Rapids. He was born Max Henry Johnson in Strongs, Michigan the son of Mabel Edith (Krise) and Herbert O. Johnson on May 02, 1942. He was a self employed roofer. He is survived by his children Edith Johnson of Grant and Justin Johnson of Cummings, GA, his grandson Justin Johnson, and his brothers David Johnson of Grant and Marvin Johnson of White Cloud. Mrs. Marabel Beth Gugle, age 91 of Grant and formerly of Comstock Park went to be with her Lord, Monday, November 11, 2013. She was born August 26, 1922 the daughter of Harvey and Delma (Chase) DuBois.
She was a devoted school teacher with Grand Rapids Public Schools for over 27 years. Marabel enjoyed spending time tending to her flower gardens. She is a beloved mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Martin and Bertha Chase, parents Harvey and Delma DuBois, brother Ronald DuBois and husband Carlyle Gugle.
She is survived by her children; Judith (Joseph) Saboo of Grand Rapids, James (Faith) Gugle of Fremont, grandchildren; Melanie Hemphill of Grand Rapids, James (Jamie) Gugle of Whitehall, Joey Saboo of Grand Rapids, brother; Gerald (JoAnn) DuBois of Fremont, sister-in-law; Caroline DuBois of Grand Rapids and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Susan Patricia Slachter age 72 of Grant, died Saturday, November 9, 2013. She was born the daughter of Fred M. and Mildred Lenora (Downing) Wilcox on January 19, 1941 in Ensley Center, Michigan.

Mr. Kenneth Dean Robinson, Age 71 of Grant died Friday, November 8, 2013 in Grand Rapids. He was born Kenneth Dean Robinson in Ashland Twp. Newaygo Co., Michigan the son of Doris J. (Hoek) and Earl L. Robinson on February 24, 1942. He was a self-employed truck driver for Robinson Logging. He was a veteran having served in the Army from November 3, 1960 to November 3, 1962 when he was discharged as a Specialist 4.
